Repertoire

Cynthia’s repertory includes the standard repertoire, American music, contemporary music, opera and oratorio, as well as a rich selection of works by women and BIPOC (black, indigenous, people of color) composers, especially for chamber orchestra.

Works currently on Cynthia’s desk include:

Florence Price Piano Concerto in One Movement.

Ben Morris Hill of Three Wishes, world premiere.

Ludvig van Beethoven Symphony No. 7 in A Major

Arnold Schoenberg Verklärte Nacht.

Wolfgang A. Mozart Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola.

Dmitri Shostakovich Symphony No. 14, for Soprano, Baritone, Strings (6.4.4.3.2) and 3 Percussionists. The work has 11 movements on texts by Federico García Lorca, Guillaume Apollinaire, Rainer Maria Rilke, and Wilhelm Küchelbecker, originally in Spanish, French, German, and Russian. Shostakovich performed the work in Russian, authorized a version in German, and encouraged others to do the music in the vernacular. Cynthia has done it in the original languages and is preparing an English translation. The work is emotionally devastating and best paired with something comforting, such as a Bach Cantata.

Max Wolpert Baroque in Mirror. A 12-minute work for chamber orchestra in three movements. Each movement plays homage to an Eighteenth Century fiddler. The slow movement pays homage to the Jewish fiddler, Abraham Caceres, and is dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Tree of Life shooting. The work is for strings, harpsichord, and oboe.
